UV resin needs compatible light

UV-curable resin is formulated to react to particular wavelengths of light. Many craft formulas are used for small items and thin layers, but the supplier's instructions determine the right application.

The light must reach the resin. A piece that appears hard on top can still have uncured material in a shadowed or heavily pigmented area.

Two-part epoxy needs the right mix

Ordinary two-part epoxy cures after its resin and hardener are mixed in the specified ratio. Its working time and cure schedule depend on its formula and conditions.

Putting it under a UV lamp does not replace correct measurement, mixing, or the required chemical cure. Do not assume a lamp can turn standard epoxy into a UV-curable material.

Pick a project, then a process

Small clear pendants and surface details may suit an appropriate UV resin. Larger castings and deeper projects may need a casting resin specifically designed for their dimensions.

The coasters, jewelry, and other craft photographs in our journal illustrate creative ideas. They do not mean every pictured form can be made with every resin or lamp.

Read both sets of instructions

Check the resin supplier's instructions alongside the lamp manual. Follow requirements for protective equipment, ventilation, maximum layer depth, mixing where applicable, and disposal.

When in doubt about a material, ask its manufacturer. For questions about your GISTAR light, contact our product support team with the model and order details.
